How To Bid on Timed Online Auctions

A timed online auction has a specified bidding date, with open and closing times. You can view photos and descriptions of the asset prior to the open. Any bids placed in the last minute of the lot closing will add 1 minute of extension time to the timer.

There are two ways to participate in a timed online auction: Incremental bidding and Autobids.

Bid by Increment

By clicking on the ‘Bid R xxxx’ button, you add your bid to the auction at a price that is one increment higher than the previous bidder’s. The incremental bid varies depending on the asset.

Once you place a bid, your bid status is shown. Your bid status updates if you are over reserve or outbid. You may be immediately outbid by another bidders Autobid.

Autobids

If you have a price in mind for an item, and don’t want to go beyond that, you can enter that amount and the system will bid incrementally for you until your limit is reached. If there is a bid higher than your limit, you’ll be removed from the bidding.

How To Bid on Webcast Auctions

Bid during Live Webcast Auction Closing

Webcast bidders compete with floor bidders by clicking a ‘Bid’ button while the auction is live. Unlike a timed online auction, a qualified auctioneer is in control of the bidding increments. Bidding early is recommended as you can’t place auto bids in the closing. You can enter incremental or auto bids prior to the start of a webcast auction.

Pre-Bidding on Webcast Auctions

The Webcast pre-bidding phase is the time before the auction Webcast starts with the auctioneer feed. During pre-bidding you are able to place Incremental bids or Autobids on lots.

If you place Autobids (A), the system will bid up to your amounts during Live auction closing, on your behalf.

You can place incremental bids (B & C)) during pre-bidding phase also, by clicking the green Asking price button. Your bid status will be displayed (D) notifying you if you are the highest or have been outbid by other pre-bidders.

Starring lots - same as Watchlist

Our sellers told us that their bidders wanted a way to manage the lots they are interested within the auction - without navigating away from the main auction pages. We listened and now we present to you STARRING

  • Each lot a user bids on will be automatically starred
  • Bidders can also choose which lots to star, without bidding
  • All starred items can be filtered so only the most important items are in view for the bidder
